That Dress Will Make You…

GirlSeeksShoe here.

Raise your hand if you have encountered that baffling syndrome, encountered by many a shopaholic, known only as “suddenly, I believe in magic”. No, not “clap your hands for the fairies” magic; the magic in question is anticipated in shops and changing rooms across the world. This syndrome* can be  prompted by the most mundane of actions… like maybe glancing at your neighbour’s copy of Vogue whilst sitting in class.

 And then you are gone.

Into the depths of your imagination, where you see that perfect bag/shoes/dress/haircut transform you. You just know that the belt/watch/necklace/purse will make you famous, get the boy (or girl) of your dreams, and complete your life. It is irrelevant that soon the syndrome will strike again, and something else will give you butterflies. You need to buy it.

In case you haven’t noticed, it has happened to me. Again.

Nina Ricci Dress advertised by Nordstrom in American Vogue

 I am in love.

Unfortunately, the Dress From Heaven dress is far out of my price range and not even available in the UK (as far as my internet research has found). So, I went on a hunt for things made out of floaty, frilly chiffon (or close enough).

There are several reason why I have been in love with this trend for about a year now.

1. It can be worn in all seasons. Don’t believe me? One frilly chiffon blouse. With trousers and a quirky blazer for autumn. With opaque tights tucked into a pencil skirt for winter. With a cute cardigan for spring. With linen trousers for summer. I’m not going to say I told you so, but it is a staple wardrobe piece that, in my opinion, is much over-looked and under-estimated.

2. It suits my body shape. Now, this is a matter of personal choice, but if anyone out there is tall, slim, with a small chest and waist, and has fairly broad shoulder… this style is perfect for YOU! Frills at the front give your chest more volume, but the outfit can still remain fitted to show off the rest of you. And floaty chiffon sleeves are a must for anyone having a bad arm-day.

3. It’s so prettyyy. Girly, fun, sophisticated, sexy… what other wardrobe staple can combine these? Well… yes… your prized LBD does. But you want to save that for special occasions, right?

The Nina Ricci dress above served to relight my fire, in the style of Take That, for all things floaty, frilly and chiffon. So, I went shopping, and I dug deep into my wardrobe, and I found…

And in my next post I’ll show you.

*Not a real syndrome
