FBF Friday – Not A Fashion Blogger

24 Jun

GirlSeeksShoe here.

I love clothes, and shoes, and writing/blogging about the things I love. But I don’t feel like a fashion blogger.

Fashion bloggers are those pretty sparkly people whose blogs are filled with pictures of fantatstic quality, and wear outfits that just ooze style. I’m just a girl who likes to write about clothes and the latest thing that’s in Vogue. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t set trends; hell, I haven’t even lived long enough to form my own concrete style. Fashion bloggers are grown-ups, with views and subscribers. So I’m going to answer this week’s set of FBFF questions not as a fashion blogger but as myself; an 18 year old girl who is looking for some affordable clothes that don’t fall apart after a week and starting a collection of shoes. I just happen to be blogging about it.

1. Since you began blogging do you notice a change in the types of things you gravitate towards while shopping?

Nope not really. I blog about what I buy, but I don’t buy for blogging. True, sometimes I look at a rack of clothes and think, “That would make an interesting blog post”, but it won’t be the prospect of blogging that made me ‘gravitate’ towards that rack of clothes. I shop for that warm fuzzy feeling I get inside when I spend money I don’t have on things I maybe don’t need. And if the prospect of blogging ever begins to overtake my love of shopping when I walk into New Look, I’ll know it’s time to stop.

2. Do you find, as a fashion blogger, that you dress differently from your family and friends? Do they comment on that?

My dress sense and/0r my sense of style has nothing to do my blogging. It’s what made me think about blogging in the first place. Yes, I my dress sense is what some wold call unique and others would (hopefully) call stylish. But, baby, I was born this way.

3.  What’s the weirdest fashion that you secretly like, even if you aren’t bold enough to wear it?

I like this question. More often than not, I see someone wearing something spectacular, hunt it down, and find that it doesn’t suit me at all! *Ahem, chinos anyone?* But the weirdest fashion I secretly love, but am definitely terrified of, would have to be harem pants.

Especially the leopard print ones. Two terrifiying trends combined into one unwearable look that only a Kardashian could get away with.

4. Looking at current trends – what would you like to try but need to build up the courage to do?

Apart from harem pants, probably red lipstick, which I am totally going to try… just not yet…

5. Toot someone’s horn – what fashion blogger out there inspires you with her bold fashion choices?

Kimberly at eat.sleep.wear. To me she is the epitome of fashion blogging; stunning photography combined with flawless fashion choices, she wears all the things I wish I could pull off. For me, fashion blogging began as escapism, a peek into other people’s lives, and Kimberly’s blog is just a perfect pick-me-up.

She definitely knows how to wear fashion.

Shoe Tales

20 Jun

GirlSeeksShoe here.

I only recently joined Modly Chic’s Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, and I was totally gutted that I had missed the questions on shoes. So I’m going to answer them anyway, and I challenge anyone who reads this post to answer at least one of these shoe-related questions in the comments. Go on, I dare you

1. What is your go-to pair of shoes?

Well, if it’s just for popping out and running errands, a pair of ballet flats is perfect. I’d say that the shoes I have worn the most in the past month would be these flats from New Look.

2. What goes into your shoe buying decisions?

I generally only need to glance at a pair of shoes to decide that I love them and want them. So I tend to ask myself if I need them. I look at price, how well made they are, if they are going to fall apart after one wear, the fit, and the price again. Sadly, my purse knows that this approach rarely deters me from buying an unsuitable pair of shoes, if such a thing exists…

3. The majority of the shoes in your closet are what colour?

Here’s a tally:

Black: 4      Pink: 1

White: 2     Floral: 2

Brown: 1    Grey: 1

Yellow: 1    Purple: 3

Red: 1         Coral: 1

Gold/Neutral: 1      Denim: 1

So I guess black wins.

4. When it comes to designer shoes, what are your favorite brands and why?

My favourite designer brands are based on pure speculation, because I haven’t yet tested out the practicalities due to my low shoe-funds. But, aside from the obvious Jimmy Choo and Louboutin, who get on any shoe-lover’s list courtesy of their impeccable reputations, my favourite brand at the moment would have to be Dior. Reason? They’re pretty

From top to bottom; Dior, Louboutin and Jimmy Choo.

When it comes to my most bought brand, definitely New Look; they’re cheap, comfortable, and did somebody say 20% student discount?…

5. If price wasn’t an issue, you’d own which shoe?

This one.

Dior. High. Tribal.

Any of those colours, I don’t care. They are the Ones. Like the perfect man but way better.

FBF Friday – Food…

17 Jun

GirlSeeksShoe here.

Summer food is just glorious. Synonymous with a Pimm’s picnic in the park, or a fresh sorbet, and even the music form an ice-cream truck… summer food is easily the nicest way to transition from comfort food in winter to a never-ending stream of barbecues. As a student the food I eat tends to be cheap and quick to make, and in summer this is all the more vital… who wants to be inside cooking, when you could be at the beach eating?! My favourite summer recipe is definitely quick and a picnic essential. Plus, it tastes amazing even though it is super-healthy (the best foods are generally bad for you)…

How to make GUACAMOLE:

You need;

  • 2 large ripe avocados (halved, peeled and remove the stones)
  • The juice of 1 lime or lemon (I prefer lime but it’s up to you)
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 1 tablespoon of finely chopped onion
  • 1 large tomato (skinned, deseeded and finely chopped)
  • 1 fresh green chilli (deseeded and finely chopped… remember not to rub your eyes!)
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander leaves finely chopped
  • a pinch of sugar
  • salt and pepper
  1. Put the avocado into the bowl with the lime or lemon juice and mash to make a textured but noy smooth paste.
  2. Stir in the garlic, onion, tomato, chilli, coriander and sugar.
  3. Sprinkle with salt and pepper (you can add some extra lime or lemon juice if you want to).

This recipe takes about 10 minutes and serves 3/4. You can eat guacamole with tortillas, use it to make nachos, and even have it as a healthy snack with celery, cucumber or carrots!

So slip on your shades, grab some friends, and enjoy.
