Parisian Summer Evenings

15 Jul

GirlSeeksShoe here.

So I just got back from an amazing week in Paris; just being a tourist and eating some delicious food etc. But one thing really jumped out at me. The native Parisians are so so stylish! Now, I’m not really surprised, we all know they have this reputation for being classy elegant people, I just hadn’t experienced it first-hand. Throughout the week I started to notice trends in the way they dressed, enabling me to dissect their style pour toi! If you want to dress like a sophisticated Parisian, here are some key elements to their summer look.

Loose blouses and shirts:

Often paired with a short black pencil skirt, bare legs and ballet flats, I saw loose blouses and shirts worn in a myriad of ways.

Open over vest tops, belted in, casually flung over shoulder. Very chic.

They were often in nude colours, but you could go with floral, if you wanted to really make a splash.

The Black Sack Dress:

Always belted in, fairly short, usually with bare legs. A shift will do, but it should be cotton or linen, as the light fabric makes for a more summery look.

Ballet pumps were also very chic and seemed a staple for those on the Metro. But nothing flashy, and usually suede:

I was stunned by the beauty of the people too. The most beautiful city-dwellers in the world? Very possibly…

Daughters of Vogue

29 Jun

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while; I’ve been swamped with special occasions like my sister’s 18th and prom (both of which were fabulous by the way).

Anyways, I recently stumbled across some pictures of Anna Wintour with her daughter Bee Shaffer, who has obviously inherited the style-gene from her mother. This post would also be the perfect moment to introduce one of my style icons, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, who happens to be the daughter of the former editor of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld. Both Bee and Julia are daughters of two of the most eminent women in the fashion-publishing industry, and yet both can be called stylish in their own right.

I love how daughters inherit certain style quirks from their mothers, and then turn it into something completely original. I know my fashion sense is strongly influenced by my mother, and yet it is so different. What fashion tips have you inherited?

Red And Black Is Coming Back

17 Jun

GirlSeeksShoe here.

Accents of black on a red hat. Red shoes teamed with a black dress. Black patent shoes with red soles…

Okay well that last one never really went out of fashion. You know what they say; love and hate may come and go but Louboutins are eternal (yes, I made that up. No, it is not copyright). Anyway, TREND ALERT! Black and red is coming back with a bang this autumn, and to really be a fashion maverick go for 70’s styles, with shift dresses taking centre stage. Back with a bang indeed.
