Happily Ever After

GirlSeeksShoe here.
Okay, I’ll admit it… I love weddings. I love the romance, and the fashion, and the happiness. After all, a wedding is a celebration, and it just happens to come with lots of beautiful dresses. So, when I saw that British Vogue’s May edition was centred on the Royal Wedding, of course I had to pick one up. (As far as that wedding goes, I will be watching it; it’s a part of history and the whole royal establishment intrigues me. How on earth do they manage to keep such private lives, when so much speculation surrounds them?) But a wedding issue of Vogue is a wedding issue, and boy, did this one deliver!
Firstly, it’s the first ever issue of Vogue to be released with multiple covers. The three cover models (Lara Stone, Natalia Vodianova and Freja Beha Erichson; the It Girls of the moment) were presented as glowing brides in Oscar de la Renta, Vivienne Westwood and Bruce Oldfield. My favourite was Freja in Oscar de la Renta:

Then, to my delight, I found a spread of photographs featuring delectable wedding dresses and delicious men in uniform. Mario Testino’s “Wedding Belles” shoot “marks a uniquely British wedding with the pride of the nation”. Firemen, soldiers, sea cadets. Even a British Airways crew made the cut! Below are my personal favourites:

Dress by Ellie Saab Haute Couture

Dress by Carolina Herrera
  Dress by Dior
Obviously the theme of the issue was white, it being the symbol of Christian matrimonial ceremonies. My favourite fashion shoot stuck to the light colour scheme, but also focused on marriage itself. It used traditional anniversary gifts to portray a modern marriage. Here is my favourite photograph from “Forget Me Not”:

First Year: Paper; in the form of prenuptial agreements and photocopied divorce papers. Bride wears Julien Macdonald.

A wedding wouldn’t be a wedding without some sparkle, and Vogue certainly provided some of that in their “With This Ring…” article. Personally, I have always loved a bit of glitz and glamour, and even if I can’t afford these gems, there’s enough costume jewellery out there to jazz up my outfits.

And I’ll leave you with one final image from the issue, in which they drew memories from various royal weddings over time. Here is the 1934 wedding of Princess Marina and the Duke of Kent:

I’m sure next Friday’s majestic affair will match up.

And, as for Catherine Middleton’s much-anticipated wedding dress… well, in the words of Vera Wang; “A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes.”
